NEW YORK CITY with Doug Beacom (dbeacom@hightechhigh.org)
Tour Operator: This is an independent trip.
Trip Dates: March 17 - March 25
Tour Operator Website: I am planning this trip. We will plan some features together.
Overview of Trip: This trip will be based on my experience living in NYC, and the itinerary from a great HTHI trip 3 years ago. I'm hoping to do all the fun tourist attractions in NYC as well sharing the aspects of 'New York' life that I enjoyed when I lived there. We will be staying in a central location in Manhattan, we'll visit at least 3 boroughs (Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens), a few urban college campuses (Columbia, Cooper Union, The New School), and we'll ride the 7 train—the most linguistically diverse train line in North America...perhaps in the world! Special outings and excursions will be planned collaboratively based on the interests of the group, in the months before the trip. We will experience theater, live music, art & I will challenge students to try a food out of their comfort zone at least once a day!
In short, we will spend 6 days and 5 nights squeezing the amazingness out of New York City—and return home, eyes, ears and stomaches completely satiated of the Big Apple's cultural awesomeness.
Educational Focus: contemporary & street art, NYC history, language in urban areas & college visits
Estimated Cost: $1400-$1500
What is included?: Travel & Accommodations for 6 nights, including money for meals & eating like a New Yorker: food stands, picnics & a featured restaurants daily, theater outing & live music outing & museums.
What else are students responsible for?: spending money, admission to additional theater/music
What optional excursions might be available?: TBD
Other costs?: baggage costs may be associated since this is domestic travel
