Frequently Asked Questions

When is Immersion Week?
Immersion Week runs from Monday, March 19 through Friday, March 23. Some trips may leave on the weekend before Immersion Week or return during Spring Break.

Are students required to go on a trip?
No. Students are not required to go on a trip.

What happens to students that don’t go on a trip?
Students that don’t go on a trip will take part in Immersion Week at school. Teachers will offer different workshops that will immerse students in new experiences. Workshop descriptions will be made available 2nd semester.

How does HTHI decide which students will attend trips?
We will place students on trips according to the following priorities:
• Complete and timely application, thoughtful personal statement, good recommendations, no disciplinary concerns.
• Trip leaders, who are personally responsible for all aspects of their trip, may make placement changes to preserve gender balance, grade level balance, or to address behavior concerns they have about any applicant. Trip leaders may also give priority to advisees.
• Higher grade levels have placement priority over lower grade levels.
• Students who have not attended trips in the past will have priority over students that have been on trips.
• Students that complete their applications early will have priority over those that complete them closer to the deadline.

What happens if my student applies for but does not get placed on a trip?
These students will be placed on the waiting list. Wait list ranking will be based upon the same criteria we use to place students on trips (see above). Students will be offered available spots based upon a combination of their rank on the wait list and the trip preference they provided in their application.

How does HTHI decide which students will get financial aid?
In order to qualify for financial aid:
• You must qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch.
• You must submit a Scholarship Application by Friday Sept. 16 at 4:00 pm. A comittee of staff members will review the applications and award 15 scholarships based on the applications.
